HSEQ Manager
An opportunity has come up with a company that for over 30 years has been leading the way for change and transformation on the railways. With cutting edge technology, rail track maintenance and construction projects across the globe, completing them in record time, while reducing operational costs.


The role will be based in their Doncaster office with occasional travel to their Kilmarnock headquarters for the completion of audits. Reporting in directly to the group CEO assisting in the company's requirements to have access to appropriate advice and effective systems enabling its operations to be performed in an efficient, safe and environmentally sound way, without risk to health.


The key responsibilities for this HSEQ Manager role are:

  • Provide appropriate guidance to the Leadership team on all aspects of HSEQ, engaging with all staff across the organisation on health, safety, environmental and quality issues.
  • Ensure the company has appropriate targets to enable continual improvement, and that an action plan is in place for the company to meet these targets.
  • Management of HSEQ Strategies Policies, procedures and reviewing them so that they align with the company values.
  • Responsible for compliance of all Health and Safety processes in line with the relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Take the lead in the creation of a 'Safety First' culture, ensuring all accidents, near misses etc are documented, investigated, reported and recommend improvements as appropriate.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues across the business to take responsibility for their own role's areas of HSEQ.
  • Promote a culture of HSEQ best practice across all operational work sites by actively attending job sites, as well as company facilities, working with the team to drive the safest possible work methods regulatory compliance
  • Manage a training programme for First Aiders and other relevant HSEQ roles across the business units
  • Promote health and safety practices through the coordination of promotional activities and projects Company wide.
  • Providing and updating systems and procedures to ensure all elements of the Health and Safety Policy and Responsibly Matrix is adhered to.
  • Deliver regular management reports on HSEQ performance for the leadership team, this will include the creation of written reports and presenting at meetings.
  • Management of the 3rd party company who will be responsible for management of the RISQ's and BSI audits, ensuring any raised items are resolved within the required timeline.
  • Actively attend Rail worksites on a regular basis including the conducting of unannounced visitations.
  • Manage the development and continuous improvement of the management systems, actively partnering with the functional departments so they understand their obligations in maintaining the system


Experience and skills required for this HSEQ Manager role are:

  • NEBOSH and IOSH qualifications.
  • Experience in carrying out a similar role within the Rail Sector is desirable.
  • Experience of managing H&S at worksites, including manufacturing assembly facilities and depots .
  • Experience of appropriate industry body audits for the Rail industry and processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of HSE matters, legislation and standards
  • Experience in dealing with HSE systems, processes and identifying training needs
  • Proven ability to support the businesses in the implementation of change
  • Proven track record of delivering HSE benefits
  • Ability to 'troubleshoot' difficult area
