M&E Engineer
An opportunity with a well-established and highly regarded design consultancy, specializing in delivering innovative design solutions across a variety of sectors. They are currently looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Engineer to join their growing team.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, integrated mechanical and electrical designs for projects across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on rail and infrastructure. You will receive tailored training to develop your technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and work towards achieving your Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
The key responsibilities for this M&E Engineer role are:
- Design and assist with mechanical and electrical systems for rail and infrastructure projects, including trackside systems, power supply, building services.
- Support the integration of M&E systems with civil and structural elements, ensuring designs are functional, sustainable, and meet client requirements.
- Work directly under the guidance and mentorship of the M&E Engineering Manager, receiving personalized training and support to develop your engineering skills and progress towards chartership.
- Receive exposure to a wide range of projects and tasks, enhancing your understanding of M&E systems within the rail and infrastructure sectors.
- Work closely with other engineers, architects, and designers to ensure that M&E systems are integrated seamlessly into the overall design.
- Assist with project coordination, including liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of M&E systems.
- Assist with site inspections, testing, and commissioning of M&E systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
- Take an active role in working towards your Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, with guidance from the M&E Engineering Manager and senior engineers.
- Provide design solutions for M&E systems, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with industry standards.
Experience and skills required for this M&E Engineer role are:
- At least 4-5 years of relevant M&E design experience, ideally in a consultancy environment, with exposure to rail and infrastructure projects.
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with the desire to work towards chartership.
- A keen eye for detail, especially when reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the overall success of the project while also taking initiative on individual tasks.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D), MicroStation, and ProjectWise software for M&E design.
- A strong understanding of how M&E systems interact with other engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, structural) in complex infrastructure projects, especially within rail.
- Familiarity with conducting site surveys, inspections, and working with contractors to ensure M&E systems are installed as designed.
- Experience with rail infrastructure design is desirable, including M&E systems.
- Understanding of rail operational standards and how M&E systems contribute to the safe operation of rail networks (e.g., power supply to tracks, stations, control rooms).
- Experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with M&E design and installation.
- Willingness to take on new challenges and grow within the role, particularly in areas such as design and advanced M&E technologies.
