I am currently working with a leading owner and asset manager of passenger and freight rolling stock, who are committed to sustainability, innovation, and delivering long-term value to their partners and the wider il community.
They have made huge investments that will play a pivotal role in the future of the UK's railway with an outstanding facility to test and trial new traction technologies, safely store rolling stock and provide training in a live environment.
As Safety and Environment Manager, you will support the General Manager of Site and Asset Management to enable the safe delivery of site activities, through the development and implementation of risk-based systems and assurance processes.
You will create and champion a safe delivery culture which is deeply embedded across all aspects of the site.
Main responsibilities for this Safety and Environment Manager role:
- Champion the development of a high performing, safe delivery culture on site in line with the client's visions and values, and drive continued improvement in safety performance.
- Ensure alignment of health and safety arrangements with the company health and safety strategy.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the site health & safety management system (H&SMS) to ensure alignment and compliance with The Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 (ROGS) and achieve and ensure continued certification to ISO 45001:2018
- Develop and maintain a site safety risk register, supported by a suite of risk assessments related to all non-rail operations activities conducted on site.
- Identify health, safety, and environmental training needs.
- Safety Management of events on site.
- Investigate safety events [accidents/ incidents and near misses], making suitable and sufficient recommendations to prevent recurrence and monitoring the effectiveness of their implementation.
- Conduct site safety and environment inspections (planned and unplanned) and audits.
- Produce regular reports which include site related health & safety, and environment Key Performance Indictors (KPI's).
Requirements for this Safety and Environment Manager role:
- Nebosh General Certificate or equivalent (Essential)
- ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 or 45001:2018 internal auditor (Desirable)
- Trained risk assessor (Essential)
- Trained accident investigator (Essential)
- Experience of managing safety & environment in the rail industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to inspire
