Senior Quantity Surveyor

Key Responsibilities

To have an awareness and understanding of the scope, and importance of the following Key Tasks being completed commensurate with the salient job grade in the Commercial Staff Competencies Profiles, with experience and knowledge of the principles and actions required. The tasks to be carried out will require independent action (and at times involve leading a small group of commercial staff) and will involve carrying out both periodical duties and one-off tasks in accordance with deadlines as directed by the senior Commercial team, including the following:

  • Prepare and agree variation accounts – main contract and sub-contracts.
  • Monitor cost against targets / contract progress against accepted programmes and work plans in conjunction with other team disciplines.
  • Provide input into change control procedures for EOT, delays and performance adjustment.
  • Prepare and agree interim valuations / final valuations / final accounts / sub-contract final accounts
  • Prepare and issue certification / payment of sub-contractors
  • Provide contractual advice to management (ensure compliance with contract and legal administration obligations e.g. Timely issue of relevant notices).
  • Negotiation and progress the resolution of any disputes.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and evaluate options for their control and management.
  • To have strong awareness of the scope and importance of the following Technical Competencies being required commensurate with the salient job grade in the Commercial Staff Competencies Profiles, with some experience of the principles and actions to be undertaken, including the following:
  • Law and the Contract, including statutory obligations and legislation e.g. HGCRA, Competition / Bribery Laws;
  • Pre-Contract Controls, including use of business management systems and risk identification processes;
  • Contract administration, including discharge of obligations and data management;
  • Commercial management, including operation of costing systems, forecasting, preparation of CVR reports and management of subcontract accounts;
  • Planning and programming techniques and processes; and
  • Industry technologies

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified with a Quantity Surveying degree or similar.
  • Enrolled in, or seeking membership of, a relevant professional institution (CICES, RICS or similar).
  • Successful experience at Quantity Surveyor level, displaying skill in delivering a positive commercial outcome for the project(s) with which you have been associated.
