Examinations Project Manager

This key position involves overseeing the day-to-day delivery of structural examination projects within the rail infrastructure sector. The role is client-facing and requires both technical expertise and project management skills to guide teams and ensure successful project execution.
This role is available nationwide and offers a hybrid working environment, with site travel and occasional travel to the Nottingham office.
The key requirements for this Examinations Project Manager role are:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of rail logistics, examination, and inspection projects. You will ensure smooth day-to-day project operations and collaborate with the wider management team for successful delivery.
- Perform technical checks on project deliverables and ensure compliance with agreed quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients, acting as the primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all staff on site. Brief teams on technical aspects, safe work systems, and project deliverables.
- Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring commercial performance is tracked and reported accurately.
- Ensure all project activities comply with BCL policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks related to safety, project deliverables, and deadlines, ensuring issues are addressed before they affect the project.
- Conduct regular site safety audits and ensure that all personnel comply with safety protocols and standards, including risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including environmental, health and safety, and rail-specific regulations (e.g., Network Rail's rules).
- Regularly report on project progress to stakeholders, including senior management and clients, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and offering insights for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with various teams to ensure that examination and inspection projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Lead, mentor, and train junior project staff, helping them grow in their roles and enhance their technical and project management skills.
Experience and skills required for this Examinations Project Manager role are:
- Full, clean driving license.
- Rail safety critical qualifications (e.g., PTS).
- STE4 Certification or equivalent.
- Proven experience in managing examination projects within the railway sector.
- Experience as a Safe Work Planner is highly desirable.
- Background in rail infrastructure and structural examinations, with knowledge of specialist access techniques preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
