The Assistant Planner Role:

A well-established, national house builder are recruiting an Assistant Planner to join their growing Land & Partnerships team on a permanent basis. Responsibilities of the Assistant Planner:

  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders, project teams, consultants, agents, landowners and regional teams to ensure alignment and progress.
  • Conduct thorough site visits to assess characteristics and surrounding areas, providing valuable input for potential acquisitions.
  • Negotiate legal agreements, monitor project timelines and maintain effective communication with agents and landowners as needed.
  • Oversee the preparation of development briefs and vision documents, guiding projects from concept through feasibility assessments.
  • Contribute to the Strategic Land Strategy by analysing regional planning policies, housing demands and land supply trends.
  • Collaborate on planning and viability assessments to evaluate the development potential of sites for acquisition.
  • Lead efforts to unlock development opportunities by coordinating land assembly, resolving barriers and working closely with developers.
  • Represent the organisation at planning committees, cabinet meetings and other relevant forums to advocate for project approval.
  • Assist in selecting suitable consultant teams for investigations, site promotions and acquisitions.
  • Prepare bid proposals and ensure planning obligations are met, aligning with legal and company standards.
  • Ensure that all planning processes, site assessments, and stakeholder negotiations comply with statutory requirements and company protocols.

To be considered for the Assistant Planner role: 

  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset with the ability to problem-solve effectively.
  • Prior experience in housing within housebuilding, consultancy, local authorities, or land promotion.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, complemented by a positive and adaptable attitude.
  • Willingness to travel across Yorkshire for site assessments and project collaboration.
  • A degree in planning or a related field in the built environment, accredited by the RTPI (or equivalent).
