As a CAD Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the design team by producing high-quality, accurate CAD drawings and technical documentation. You will be involved in a range of projects, ensuring the designs are executed to the highest standards. You will also work closely with engineers, architects, and other design professionals to bring concepts to life.

The key responsibilities for this CAD Technician role are:

  • Contribute to the design and development of rail infrastructure projects, including track crossings, PWAY foundations, and chambers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Apply expertise in rail design principles to support the integration of civils elements, such as water management systems, building services, and foundations, within broader infrastructure projects.
  • Work closely with civil engineers and other specialists to coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts, particularly for projects involving complex rail and civil engineering interfaces.
  • Conduct site assessments and surveys as required, providing design input based on a comprehensive understanding of rail and civil engineering requirements.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to relevant rail and civil engineering standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
  • Provide technical support and advice to project teams, including assistance with problem-solving, design modifications, and project troubleshooting.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of project reports, documentation, and compliance evidence for rail and civil projects.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry developments in rail and civil engineering to ensure designs incorporate the most effective and up-to-date practices.
  • Maintain and update project drawing files, ensuring they are organized and accessible.
  • Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and client requirements.
  • Contribute to the design and development process, offering technical expertise where needed.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in CAD software and design technologies.

Experience and skills required for this CAD Technician role are:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience working in a rail design consultancy or on rail infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD for 2D drawing and drafting, with an emphasis on creating accurate, detailed technical drawings.
  • Strong working knowledge of MicroStation for both 2D and 3D design, with the ability to produce and modify complex drawings and models.
  • Experience with ProjectWise for document management, collaboration, and workflow processes across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong skills in creating, reviewing, and modifying detailed technical drawings that comply with engineering standards and client specifications.
  • Ability to support the design and modification of civil structures, including foundations, chambers, water management systems, and building services, with an awareness of their integration with rail infrastructure.
  • Strong communication abilities to liaise with stakeholders, project teams, and clients, and prepare clear reports and documentation.
  • Ability to identify design issues and provide solutions, particularly for the interface between rail and civil engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with safety requirements for rail and civil engineering projects (e.g., CSCS, Network Rail Safety Training, or equivalent).
  • Degree or diploma in an engineering background.
  • Chartership or wanting to work towards chartership would be desirable.
