A respected and well-established main contractor is seeking a Design Manager to join the team focusing on high quality refurbishment listed building and conversion projects across London. This is a great opportunity for a technically strong and detail focused professional to take ownership of design delivery across unique and architecturally sensitive schemes.
This role would suit someone with a background in technical design who enjoys being hands on with drawings and detailing while also coordinating wider design development across internal and external teams.
Responsibilities of the Design Manager
- Lead and manage the design process from pre-construction through to completion, primarily on refurbishment and conversion projects
- Produce and review technical drawings construction details and design solutions where required
- Coordinate design input between consultants subcontractors and internal teams
- Attend site and design meetings resolving technical issues and ensuring smooth delivery
- Review and challenge design proposals to ensure buildability compliance and cost effectiveness
- Work closely with planning building control and conservation officers to ensure statutory approvals are achieved
- Manage design documentation and ensure accurate and timely information is provided to site teams
Requirements of the Design Manager
- HNC HND BSc in Architecture, Construction or a related discipline
- Previous experience in a Design Manager or Senior Architectural role
- Strong knowledge of traditional construction methods listed building refurbishment and structural alterations
- Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit and comfortable producing or modifying working drawings and technical details
- Familiar with UK Building Regulations planning processes and heritage project constraints
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage design coordination across complex project teams
