Quantity Surveyor
An opportunity with a leading UK-based construction, infrastructure, and property services company with a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality projects across a wide range of sectors, including transportation, utilities, and residential construction. They work on complex and innovative projects, helping shape the infrastructure that underpins communities and businesses.
They are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the team in Salford/Manchester. You will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of provider and managed works contracts. Overseeing value engineering, estimating, price negotiations, identifying and agreeing on additional work, interim valuations, final accounts, and the production and management of all relevant contractual documentation.

The key responsibilities for this Quantity Surveyor role are:
- Actively promoting health and safety within the workplace, setting good examples to other employees and ensuring awareness and compliance with general health and safety responsibilities.
- Consideration of safety, health and environment on every task. Working to the SHE basics, training and competence, risk assessments, inductions for staff, safe systems of working and point of work risk assessments.
- Maintain good and effective working relationship with colleagues, clients and key suppliers for projects, taking the lead with appropriate forms of communication.
- Act as a strong leader and mentor for junior staff, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clear and that staff are supported.
- Assisting with delivering profitability, at the levels expected of the project/section you are working on.
- Understanding and managing costs while maintaining records for the appropriate recovery of costs from clients and subcontractors.
- Ownership of cost and production controls, which includer reconciliations on your project/section and managing and supporting the production teams as required.
- Supporting the commercial teams with securing maximum sustainable value from contracts and managing subcontractors.
- Set up necessary systems to efficiently file and retrieve information that allows others to also do.
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage all aspects of subcontractor accounts.
- Prepare interim valuations and final accounts.
- Compile monthly applications for payments to clients and track the certification.
- Management the procurement of subcontractors.
- Prepare monthly cost value and forecast reports.
- Compile project specific commercial issues for reporting and presentation at client progress meetings.
- Compile, submit and agree the financial effects of variations
- Work with the project operational staff to ensure profitable and commercial aspects of site decisions are understood.

Experience and knowledge required for this Quantity Surveyor role are:
- Holds the relevant qualifications (e.g., Degree in Quantity Surveying)
- Experience within the rail, construction or civils industry.
- 2+ years' experience within a Quantity Surveyor role
- Experience of identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, and the ability to implement appropriate measures on-site to ensure the safety of the workforce and adherence to industry standards.
- Awareness of industry best practices related to cost control, procurement, and project management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong client relationship management skills to ensure client satisfaction, encourage repeat business, and resolve any financial issues or disputes promptly.
- A focus on continuous improvement and the ability to adapt to changing industry standards, technologies, or client requirements.
- High attention to detail when managing financial records, subcontractor accounts, and contract documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
