Senior Geotechnical/Geo-environmental Engineer

A respected, multi-disciplinary consultancy based in Sheffield is seeking a Senior Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer to join their growing ground engineering team. With a broad project portfolio across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

As a Senior Engineer, you'll manage and deliver a range of geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigations from inception through to reporting and client liaison.

The key responsibilities for this Senior Geotechnical/Geo-environmental Engineer are:

  • Visiting sites to carry out, inspect and/or supervise trial pitting, soak-away testing, supervising borehole investigations, verification of capping etc.
  • Supervising construction works which may include inspecting foundations, drilling and grouting of mine workings, earthworks or remediation of contaminated sites.
  • Producing Phase 1 and Phase 2 site geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigation reports.
  • Preparing coal mining risk assessments, earthworks strategies, verification reports etc.
  • Advising on geotechnical parameters for foundation design, slope stability, and settlement etc.
  • Carrying out detailed quantitative risk assessments
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, site teams, and other internal departments
  • Mentoring and supporting Graduate and Junior Engineers

Experience required for this Senior Geotechnical/Geo-environmental Engineer role are:

  • A minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in a geotechnical or geo-environmental role
  • A relevant degree in Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related Earth Science discipline (ideally MSc qualified)
  • Progress toward professional membership with the Geological Society, ICE, or a similar professional body
  • Experience managing site investigations and reporting to industry standards
  • The ability to manage projects independently and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Proven experience in producing Phase 1 and Phase 2 site investigation reports, providing clear and practical guidance to clients based on findings.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided)
