Systems Engineering Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineering Manager to join a board representing local transport within the region. Who are pivotal in delivering a wide range of improvement programmes to modernise tram systems and improve the service for their passengers.

Substantial investment has been put into all aspects of the system over the next few years, including refurbishment of existing substations, installation of new substations and overhead line replacement.

The purpose of this role is to manage the condition and performance of the systems - including SCADA, LRT Signalling, Automatic Vehicle Location System, Radio, and CCTV - so the assets are safe and compliant with all standards and legislations.

Key responsibilities for this Systems Engineering Manager:

- Identify and uphold technical standards for light rail systems, including functionality, performance, reliability and maintainability.
- Support the Operator in developing annual maintenance plans and budget requirements.
- Provide technical expertise to and review documentation (designs, drawings, specification, as-built information etc.) developed by others as part of asset renewal and extension plans, and critically challenge proposals to ensure the risks (mainly relating to safety, maintainability, ongoing renewal obligations and interfaces with other assets) are acceptable.
- Construct scopes and specifications for designs and works in relation to tram systems, including sourcing and management of other specialists as required.
- Manage asset improvement initiatives as required, including definition, direction setting and management of scopes, budgets, contracts and resources.
- Act as sponsor for changes to light rail systems.

Key requirements for this Systems Engineering Manager:

- Educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
- Ideally professionally qualified in a recognised Engineering Institution - desirable
- Proven experience working in an engineering/asset management role within the heavy or light rail industry.
- Clear knowledge and technical competence in a discipline relating to light rail systems in light or heavy rail.
- Established delivery record in maintenance, obsolescence management, life extension works, and renewal of light rail systems.
- Understanding of effective cost management and budget setting process and principles
- Knowledge of the principles of ISO55000 - Desirable
- Experience of working on a multi-disciplinary renewal programme - Desirable
