Job Description: Cost Manager – Construction Projects Cologne

About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cost Manager to oversee cost planning, control, and financial reporting for construction projects across Germany. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring projects are delivered on budget while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Planning and Estimation:

    • Develop and manage detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
    • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and requirements to prepare accurate cost forecasts.
    • Conduct value engineering and cost optimization.
  2. Cost Monitoring and Control:

    • Track and report on actual costs versus budgets.
    • Identify and address cost variances promptly.
    • Prepare cost-to-complete reports and forecasts.
    • Work closely with project teams to ensure alignment on financial goals.
  3. Procurement and Tendering:

    • Assist in preparing tender documents and contracts.
    • Evaluate bids and negotiate with contractors and suppliers to achieve cost efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and contractual obligations.
  4. Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Liaise with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure financial clarity.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on project cost performance.
  5. Risk Management:

    • Identify cost-related risks and propose mitigation strategies.
    • Monitor market trends and changes in material and labor costs.
  6. Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensure compliance with German building regulations and industry standards.
    • Maintain accurate and transparent documentation of all financial transactions and decisions.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in cost management or quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of construction processes, cost structures, and financial principles.
    • Familiarity with German construction laws, regulations, and codes (HOAI, VOB, etc.).
  • Skills:
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., CostX, SAP, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills in both German and English.
  • Certifications (Optional): RICS, ICES, or equivalent certification is a plus.
