Design Manager - Main Contractor - Southampton

Location: Southampton, Hampshire

Salary: Up to £60,000 + Car Allowance + Package

 

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Manager to join a reputable main contractor with a strong pipeline of major projects across the South Coast.

As Design Manager, you will take the lead on technically complex schemes, ensuring that design deliverables meet client expectations, regulatory requirements, and programme timelines. This role is based out of the Southampton regional office, with the flexibility to split time between office, site, and remote working as required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the design process during pre-construction and delivery phases

     

  • Coordinate design information across consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams

     

  • Monitor design progress against programme milestones

     

  • Chair design team meetings and workshops

     

  • Ensure compliance with planning, building regulations, and CDM

     

  • Work closely with commercial, construction, and planning departments

     

  • Interface with client representatives and stakeholders

     

  • Manage RFIs, document control, and value engineering reviews

     

 

About You:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager or Design Coordinator with a main contractor

     

  • Background in leading projects through pre-construction and/or delivery

     

  • Strong technical knowledge across construction methods and materials

     

  • Experience with multi-disciplinary consultant teams and subcontractor design

     

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

     

  • Familiarity with BIM, Common Data Environments, and digital tools

     

  • HNC/Degree qualified in a construction-related discipline preferred

     

 

Sectors:
