Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our dynamic team working on a critical Nuclear project. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project within a leading organisation, with the flexibility of hybrid working arrangements.
The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of experience in Systems Safety Assurance, with a strong understanding of safety engineering principles and practices. A background in the Nuclear sector is preferred, though we are open to candidates from other safety-critical industries, including Defence, Oil and Gas, Civil Engineering, Airports, or Rail.
As a Senior Systems Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of complex systems throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop safety requirements, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Your expertise will be key in identifying and mitigating potential hazards, ensuring the highest safety standards are met at all stages of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety assurance activities for systems within a Nuclear project.
- Conduct safety analyses, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations to ensure the safety of systems and operations.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are met and integrated into system designs.
- Review and assess safety cases, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain safety management plans, hazard logs, and safety reports.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on systems safety issues to support decision-making.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of safety processes, tools, and methodologies.
Key Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience within Systems Safety Assurance or a related safety-critical engineering discipline.
- Experience working in safety-critical industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Oil and Gas, Civil Engineering, Airports, or Rail.
- Strong understanding of safety engineering principles, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and system safety lifecycle.
- Proven ability to conduct safety case development, failure modes analysis, and fault tree analysis.
- Experience with safety management systems and the ability to communicate complex safety issues clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
- A strong problem solver, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Experience with safety assessments in Nuclear projects or environments.
- Membership of professional bodies such as Institute of Safety Engineers (ISEE) or Chartered Engineer status.
